WiMAX (Wireless Broadband) stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access and is a unique technology being deployed by BSNL for the first time in India.

WiMAX technology provides fixed as well as fully mobile high speed broadband connectivity along with roaming feature. It provides users, a thrilling Internet browsing experience. BSNL offers three types of Customer Premises Equipments (CPE) as Outdoor CPE, Indoor CPE and USB dongle from which customers can choose as per their application requirements.
  • Indoor Equipment :- Best suited for Home/Office users and it can be used in moving vehicle also.
  • Dongle Equipment :- Small Dongle can be connected directly to PC / Laptop via USB port.
  • Outdoor Equipment :- Suitable for remote and rural areas which can be used upto 15 Kilometers distance (Line of sight) from BTS site.

9. What do I need to get WiMAX connection?

10. Do I need to apply for phone-line to have the WiMAX service?
  • No. WiMAX is wireless technology so there is no need to apply for a phone line.

  • Yes. WiMAX technology incorporates much better and more flexible security support than the Wi-Fi standard. All user traffic is encrypted before being routed through the Network.
13. Is WiMAX(Wireless Broadband) safe?
  • Yes. It is safe and there is no harmful effect on human body.
14. How can customer connect the computer to the WiMAX(Wireless Broadband) Service?
  • Customer have to connect your Computer to CPE using Ethernet cable.
15. Swaping from Post-paid to Pre-paid? 
  • Yes, It is possible. You have to Close the corresponding post-paid connection and create a fresh connection for Pre-paid. Rental CPE is not allowed for Pre-Paid connection. If the CPE is in rental for Post-paid, Ask him to purchase from BSNL or outside.
16. Can I run VoIP over WiMAX(Wireless Broadband)?
  • Yes, you can use VoIP in following manner
  1. PC to PC (In India and Outside).
  2. PC to Phone (Outside India).

    1. Broadband modem is not useful to WIMAX connection, apply at BSNL office for wimax connection, anyone can use internet for desktop and laptop at a time

    3. If you have indoor model , then it is WiFi enabled but if it is outdoor of dongle model, then you have to buy access point compatible to them. Outdoor model could work at 10-12 kms from tower, indoor at 2-3 km and dongle at 500mtrs-1 km .

    1. Broadband connection is Wired and WiMAX is wireless, if possible keep existing wired Broadband connection only.

      d'link router will not work for WiMAX, WiMAX equipment is different. for your office and home which is 3 km.. away from each other you have to apply and pay for both the connections of WiMAX

  13. I am going through different internet plans. Came through this WiMAX indoor CPE. I have two laptops, 1 ipad, 1 iphone. Its mentioned above that for laptop/desktop one need to have Ethernet card and the have to connect the computer through Ethernet cable. Then how can I/we use more than one device at the same time? Is it the CPE will just work like the WiFi or like the land line connection? And also the iPad and iPhone does not have ethernet card.
    Want to know how to contact the BSNL office to ask for connection? Is it going to be calling on phone or how?
    Please help as am going to move on Thursday to a rental house and will not have internet there to opt for more options.

    1. WiMAX, it is a wireless broadband service with out voice facility.
      if you want wifi facility on WiMAX, you have to purchase a wireless router from outside and connect it to WiMAX CPE, so that all your laptops, ipad, iphone, laptop/desktop will work.

  18. I am using BSNL broadband service for past few years. Due to the defects in the telephone cable system internet connection is most often shut down. Now I am using a BSNL wifi modem. I am planning to get a wimax connection. Is it possible to get wifi service from indoor wimax modem?
    Does the indoor wimax modem provide wifi? or can I connenct my existing wifi modem to it? Please do answer, based on that i have to make a decision.

    1. Indoor/Outdoor/Dongle CPEs does not provide Wifi facility, If you want to go for WiMAX connection, opt for Outdoor CPE and connect the OD CPE to your Wi-FI modem

  22. Sir, I have installed BSNL WiMax Outdoor CPE at my home. Now, I want to share this connection as WiFi so that I can use it with laptop, tablet and phone. For this, I purchased Netgear JNR 1010 N150 Wireless Router.
    I have connected the incoming network cable from WiMax to this WiFi router. After turning on wireless router, I am able to connect Netgear wireless network. Now, when I am trying to access the internet from laptop browser, it is not able to connect.
    Please help me to configure this. I am not getting any working solution from the net.
    My laptop running on Ubuntu Linux. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

    1. Connect the router to Internet and to laptop and insert the disc you have received from router company. Then open easy installation option and follow the steps and keep the wifi connection at medium security. High security possesses some problems.

    2. The IP address of your outdoor CPE and Wireless Router should be different, then only you will be able to access the internet.
      By default the IP addresses of both outdoor CPE and Wireless Router are same i.e 192.168.1.1 , so change the ip address of your wireless router to 192.168.2.1 , then it will surely work.

    1. If you want Wi-Fi using WiMAX connection, then you have to buy a Wi-Fi router from outside market and connect the OD CPE connection to router, and enable Wi-Fi

    2. Yes. Wimax service is available at my location. But I have very bad situation with my local bsnl office. They r saying equipment is out stock from last 1year I'm herring the same thing..my nearest other area bsnl offices also saying same thing. It is out of stock from my district head quarter( 100 kms from location) but other district 35kms from my location they have wimax devices in stock but they r asking that district id proof only. Wat I have to do now.?

    2. belkin basic n150 router is best. with 3years warranty. compare to other routers like d-link,tp-link it is best router im using from last 3 1/2 years. i dint faced any problem.. plug n play.
      Belkin also have have long distance coverage.just go with it..cost around 1100+ depends

    1. it is possible, but u have to purchase a wireless router, and connect the wimax connection to wireless router. Enable wireless settings in router and enjoy the internet services in Smartphones, Tablets and in all wireless services.

I getting proper internet access on my laptop but not able to get internet access on my other smartphones.     1. Your ADSL d-link wireless N 150 ADSL2+ may be used as wifi router, after connecting the wimax to ADSL wi fi router, enable the wireless settings in router, if you have any installation problems, contact bsnl technician

    1. if you have Outdoor CPE (WiMAX CPE), then connect CPE connection to wireless router, then from wireless router to Desktop/Laptop through ethernet cable and enable in wifi in wireless settings by logging into modem(ADSL modem), for this only outdoor CPE will be useful.

    I have a WIMAX Connection at home with wifi facility which i bought six months back. But since beginning i face speed problem which is erratic..moreover some sites like facebook, google doesnt open.i contacted the person who installed the system who told me that i will have to format my pc..whereas i face d same prob in my recently bought phone...even after so long it has not been rectified despite regular followup.
