    1. that is because u are confusing kbps with kBps. 512 kbps = 64 kBps. the 50-60 kbps that u said u are receiving is actually 50-60 kBps, which is obvious if u have 512kbps or 64kBps connection

      Delete
    2. 512Kbps(Kilobits) = 64KBps(Kilobytes)
All BroadBand operators explain connections in terms of Kbps(Kilobits) where as tools like bittorrent / orbit etc display in terms of KBps(Kilobytes).
      I hope it clarifies

      Delete
    3. You must understand the difference between 'kbps' and 'kBps' before blaming BSNL.
kbps means kilo bits per second.
      and whereas
kBps means kilo bytes per second.

As we know that one byte equals to eight bits.

      512 kbps = 64 kBps (512/8 kBps)

      Delete
    4. kbps stands for kilo-BITS per second and kBps stands for kilo BYTES per second.. 1BYTE = 8 bits.. so always divide the stated bandwidth by 8.. so if you are downloading at 50-60 kbps then you should be happy that you are getting near perfect speeds.. :)

      Delete
    5. kiloBytes (kB) and kilobits (kb) are different. What Parveez has said is right. And you're getting what you're paying. Bsnl is not cheating, but i do hope that the internet speed catches up with european/s.korean/n.american speed quickly.

    6. Excellent point puf forward by Parvez Rahman ... companies advertise their download/upload speed in "bits per second" whereas while working on a computer data is transferred in bytes and not bits ....since 1byte(1B)=8bits(8b).... likewise 1kbps=1024÷8 bytes = 128 bytes and 1024kbps = 1024÷8 bytes= 128kBps ....also they don't offer the upper speed limit as should be obvious

  3. I am thinking to get broadband connection with BB Home Combo ULD 900 plan. But my friend told me that speed is according to area. Internet speed of wireless connections is not very good here. Is broadband going to give me guaranteed stable speed of 4mbps/512kbps?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No,not at all....
It would depend upon the internet traffic.
Suppose during midnight, users are less than daytime. So in that case, you'll get more speed that day time for sure... :)
And as per your question, some of the brandwith would be used up for uploading..And some would be using for auto updates, etc,in the background(You can turn them off....visit Youtube for help)...
So you would not get the stable speed all around!!!So no guarantee for a stable speed,it can be less but not exceed than the limitied speed (Untill hacked...I did'nt tried this at all) :p :)

      Subhra

At the Dombivli-MIDC Telephone Exchange (Kalyan Telecom District, Maharashtra), when enquired for the BBG Combo ULD 1000 plan, I was told that the BSNL has stopped providing modems and customers will require to purchase a modem at their own cost. If it is so, then why this change is not reflected yet in the above-mentioned table?

    1. As a BSNL employee, I wish to state that the newly recruited telecom technical assistants having a B.E. qualification are well versed in attending the Broadband problems than the departmentally promoted TTAs. This is the harsh truth one has to swallow. Sooner or later the government has to take a bold decision about the VRS route to weed out the inefficient employees from BSNL as per Sam Pitroda's recommendations. Whether the government has the will power to take such a decision is a million dollar question? Once the B.E. qualified candidates enter in the portals of BSNL, there will be a remarkable change. This is my expectation. The above remarks applies to me also. The remarks are made in the interest of BSNL only.

Hi, I wanted to take landline and broadband combo plan at southcity-II gurgaon but BSNL person at sohna road ,near rajiv chowk office refused to accept the form saying there is no pair spare in that area. It is pity how they can refuse to even accept the form even if it takes few days for them to provide. How can i go again and again to ask the feasibility and then submit the form? Real govt functioning. Not bothered for new connection and even refusing to one who wants it.

What do you mean 'pair spair'? You don't mean 'spair capcity' do you? Telephone exchanges have wire panals or ports to which telephone and/or broadbend wires are connected. If there are no more ports to connect wires to then they cannot give you a connection until more panals have been installed. Until then you just have to wait or get a wireless dongle to connect to your PC/laptop.

  9. Guys i am staying near Adugodi, Koramagnala Forum Bangalore. and i am looking for unlimited BB connection which can give me high speed 2/4 MBPS upto 30/40 GB per month and thereafter 256/512 KBPS.

Currently i use Airtel BB 999 Plan ( 2 mbps upto 10 GB, thereafter 256 Kbps), for which i end up paying 1,200 Rs. every month. And it's not affordable for me. I wanna change my ISP ASAP.

Bottomline: I know & have read BB reviews in B'lore that only either Airtel or BSNL BB is good.
However, Airtel BB Internet/ customer service etc. is good but sinfully expensive, so much hidden cost( i end up paying 1200/m for 999 Plan).
Bsnl, is affordable with good internet services but bad customer service etc.
So here i'he gotta trade off situation. still i wanna try BSNL anyway.

As per that i m suppose to get speed of 512 kbps to 1 Mbps bt i getting only 74.60 kbps since past 4 months i m suffering with this problem. I have to restart modem again and again and it work for few minutes after that net speed died. I have launched complaint so many times. So called engineers come, just open Google and run away with rude answer, you will get this much speed only or upgrade your plan. Customer care never pick up the call. I am fade up of this issue. Kindly let me know the actual step i can take to get the speed i deserve to have or let me know how to disconnect from BSNL forever and also let me know where to give this negative review so other users don't need to suffer as I do

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ur modem config. is absolutely correct because, 512 is kilo BITS per second. When you download a file, it usually gives you kilo BYTES per second. a 512 kbps connection would give you around a max of 64 kilobytes per second. (To calculate this, just divide 512 by 8, since theres 8 bits in a byte) If your really only getting 50 kbps, files being downloaded would download at like 7 kb per second. Then you need to call your internet provider. :)
      hope i helped!!!!!!

      Delete
    2. 512 Kbps means Kilo Bits per second. one byte = 8 bits.
the 60kbps you are referring is Kilo BYTES per second.
So to check your download speed, always divide the speed of the plan by 8.
So your ideal download speed is 512/8 =64 Kilo BYTES per second.

You are getting what you are paying for.

Better choose 1425 plan or any plan much more expensive than that. IT IS WORTH IT!!

So totally 500+25+180=705 as fixed charge. Plus additional usage charges and Taxes. All together it comes around 2200 per month. I want to change to BBG combo ULD 900. Now i have questions. Pls excuse me if it's silly.
    1. It is 22-04-2013 today. If my plan is changed within 2 or 3 days,as they say, when will the change be accounted for billing? Will the new plan's bill come from mid april or from later?
    2. Will there be any processing charges for the change of plans? If yes, how much?
    3. Will i still get fixed monthly charges for the telephone?because in the plan details it says NIL(so does BBG FN 500 say but i pay Rs 180 for telephone),and i just want to confirm it.
    4. Do i have to pay additional security deposit charges everytime i change the plan?
    5. Can i change back to BBG FN combo 500 if i want? If yes, when can i change?

Does that mean we can talk on land line phone for unlimited time in 1 phone call or does it represent no of minutes we can talk for free in 1 call (for same service).

    1. Free calls means, Network provider(BSNL) provides no of Meter Called Units(MCUs) to a subscriber to make the calls as per landline tariff according to plan opted.

There is no unlimited time to 1 phone call.

This is only the first year i am passing by. I think where would this end by end of the 3 year. the responce is so worse with the Acc Officer of BSNL ERODE. They dont have a proper answer for this and they have been instructed to do so.ALL HUMBAK.

I am a B.B. holder of "B.B.Home Combo ULD 650". I understand from your site that under this scheme the D.L./U.L. speed would be 512 KBPS upto 4G.B. and 256 KBPS beyond 4 G.B. But I get the average speed of around 50KBPS and not beyond 70KBPS. In rare occasions I can get 90 to 100 KBPS.for a fews seconds. There is a long gap between the assured speed and available speed. Why this huge variation? Is there any remedy for it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sorry for this, the difference between 'kbps' and 'kBps' is kbps means kilo bits per second. and whereas kBps means kilo bytes per second. As we know that one byte equals to eight bits. 512 kbps = 64 kBps (512/8 kBps)

BSNL Provides 512 kbps means 512/8=64 kBps, so your are getting correct speed only by BSNL as per tariff.

First you should know the basics...
    8 bits =1 Byte
    i.e. 8 b(small b) = 1 B (capital B)

    so 512 b = 64 B

    (1kilo = 1000= 1k)

    multiply 1k on both sides

    you'll get

    512 kb = 64 kB

    .

but you are getting 74 kB per second(notice capital B)

    it means you're getting more..

  93. BSNL is the best ISP(Internet Service Provider) in India, both in service as well as tariff rates. All those who say that any private players such as reliance, airtel, etc. are giving better service at lower rates are mistaken or they are lying. I have used reliance, airtel, vodafone and bsnl but bsnl stands out amongst all these specially with the billing and tariff plans. I have downloaded 120-130 GB per month consistently for a period of more than 2 years on a monthly charge of a little more than rs. 400. I don't think that any ISP other than BSNL can provide services like this at such a cheap rate. So, anybody having any doubts while going for a new connection should opt for BSNL without having a shred of doubt.

to 30gb under 1425 plan in select circles.Since I live in Chennai I am benefited.I was wondering
why there was no speed degradation even after crossing 20gb and I checked out the tariffs page and the increased speed limits were mentioned by way of a footnote for a few plans.I think Bsnl should increase the limits in all circles.Until they do so they should mention the increased limits within brackets for select circles instead of a footnote as very few people are going to notice the asterisk marks and scroll down the page.Competitors like airtel are offering
30gb download limit for 1499 plan in almost all cities.I was seriously thinking of shifting to airtel
because of this low limit of 20gb for 1425.Now I will not do so. I visited bsnl customer care at sastri nagar adyar but sadly very few of them seemed to know that the download limits have been increased.

  103. Reliance offers 2 mbps unlimited in just 1600/- per month with a 12.36% service tax - that means 1800/- per month.
In real time, when you have a healthy seed and leechers, you must have 250 - 275 kbps speed. means 900 mb per hour. if you ran your pc at about 15-16 hours in a day, you get at least 14 GB of data. It'll be collected in a day. it's true.

so in a month I always download 400-450 GB in average. so you need 100 blank DVDs to write these data.

In uploading purposes, i always get 200 kbps speed. so when you are uploading a movie file with a 700 mb size, your upload job will be successfully accomplished in just 1 hour, without having a seed box. by this way you need only 2-2.5 hours to upload a 1400 mb ( 2
    - CD ) file saving your time a lot ! is not it ?

when BSNL provides us at least 2 mbps speed ( or 4 mbps unlimited, i prefer ) unlimited d/l with a reasonable price ? all we are waiting.

I'm from kolkata and using Meghbela bb and Alliance bb. hope bsnl should understand why people interested to other service providers. 2 mbps ( 2:00 - 8:00 ) 500/- per month plan is the only good plan bsnl has. thanks to all of you.

  107. i am using 950 4 Mbps till 8 GB & after that 512 kbps plan unlimited with good customer support.only issue is that the underground cable fault .whenever i call them it get fixed with in a Day time.In the beginning i didn't get good speed and i directly escalated this issue to superior by registering my complaint online in public grievance section on bsnl circle website in my case punjab.bsnl.co.in and within 2 days the speed along with fault got corrected , now after 12 am i am getting speed more than 4 Mbps even touching 5 Mbps sometime. Moreover then they lay down the fiber till my house from there they use the phone line .if suppose i want to use fiber tomorrow i will get instant connection since the cable is already there.i am happy with current connection only issue is that after 8 GB i have to stuck with 512 kbps which is pain after using 4 Mbps.

  108. When will BSNL give true unlimited broadband 1mbps and 2mbps at reasonable rates. They are still living in the past while rest of the world is moving forward..
3 years back i was paying 40$ ( Around 2000Rs then) for 12 mbps unlimited connection in the USA
Speedtest.net results gives an F grade (lowest) for BSNL compared to rest of the world and D grade for national comparison..

I cant even watch youtube at TV quality with the 512kbps speeds...
Growup BSNL.. Think in terms of business and quality of service instead of putting lot or rules, processes and people in front of customers..

    National GradeD (26%)
    Global GradeF (13%)

    The scale is:

    A = 80-100%
    B = 60-79%
    C = 40-59%
    D = 20-39%
    F = 0-19%

Plus/minus grades are given for the top/bottom 5% of each grade.

    1. Wi-Fi signal strength is not linked to service provider, it is the service of router only, as per your query, the modem is having some problem, so that it does not gives you full signal strength, try to reset this or replace with another modem.

  119. Unfortunately the discount of 20% has been diminished to 10% that is very annoying for a govt. employee. I request the bsnl authority to provide back the 20% rebate facility so that your consumer feel some relief in using your service.
