    1. that is because u are confusing kbps with kBps. 512 kbps = 64 kBps. the 50-60 kbps that u said u are receiving is actually 50-60 kBps, which is obvious if u have 512kbps or 64kBps connection

      Delete
    2. 512Kbps(Kilobits) = 64KBps(Kilobytes)
All BroadBand operators explain connections in terms of Kbps(Kilobits) where as tools like bittorrent / orbit etc display in terms of KBps(Kilobytes).
      I hope it clarifies

      Delete
    3. You must understand the difference between 'kbps' and 'kBps' before blaming BSNL.
kbps means kilo bits per second.
      and whereas
kBps means kilo bytes per second.

As we know that one byte equals to eight bits.

      512 kbps = 64 kBps (512/8 kBps)

      Delete
    4. kbps stands for kilo-BITS per second and kBps stands for kilo BYTES per second.. 1BYTE = 8 bits.. so always divide the stated bandwidth by 8.. so if you are downloading at 50-60 kbps then you should be happy that you are getting near perfect speeds.. :)

    1. Connect your router to your system on LAN port of it
Open a browser and type in address bar 192.168.1.1 and give enter
Default user name password might be admin/ admin for most of routers, it changes according to the router you are using,if you could provide the router model, can provide the default password)
Go to WLAN Option on Left
Create an SSID(Name of your newtork)
      Go to Security option
      Choose WPA2+PSK
      give your password
      Save
      Reboot
Check whether the Network name comes in your WLAN list, give the password and get going

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 256KbPS = 256/8 = 32 KBPS
please note the difference between small and capital "B"

Speed u r getting is good...as some bandwidth is also used for uploading the data.

      Delete
    2. why 256 divided by only 8 ?

      Delete
    3. all computer related memory units are multiples of 8 like, 1 byte = 8 bit, 1 Mb = 1024 KB etc(which is 32*32, a multiple of 8)

so they can either say 256 kilo bits per second or 32 kilo bytes per second but 256 sounds something large and hence they use it to trick people.

      Delete
    4. plz explain how 256 Kbps & 32 Kbps are same ?

And how is KBPS different from KbPS ?

      Delete
    5. Well, Sorry to ENGAGE MR. SWADESH
lemme describe this to you 256 kbps and 32 kbps are not same. 256 kbps and 32 KBPS are same. Here kbps = kilo bits per second and KBPS = Kilo bytes per second. There are 8 bits in 1 byte So, 256 Kilo bits per second divided by 8 makes is equal to 32 Kilobytes per second.
      REMEMBER 1 BYTE = 8 BITS.

Hope you have understood the difference between the two....

  6. I am thinking to get broadband connection with BB Home Combo ULD 900 plan. But my friend told me that speed is according to area. Internet speed of wireless connections is not very good here. Is broadband going to give me guaranteed stable speed of 4mbps/512kbps?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No,not at all....
It would depend upon the internet traffic.
Suppose during midnight, users are less than daytime. So in that case, you'll get more speed that day time for sure... :)
And as per your question, some of the brandwith would be used up for uploading..And some would be using for auto updates, etc,in the background(You can turn them off....visit Youtube for help)...
So you would not get the stable speed all around!!!So no guarantee for a stable speed,it can be less but not exceed than the limitied speed (Untill hacked...I did'nt tried this at all) :p :)

      Subhra

    1. As a BSNL employee, I wish to state that the newly recruited telecom technical assistants having a B.E. qualification are well versed in attending the Broadband problems than the departmentally promoted TTAs. This is the harsh truth one has to swallow. Sooner or later the government has to take a bold decision about the VRS route to weed out the inefficient employees from BSNL as per Sam Pitroda's recommendations. Whether the government has the will power to take such a decision is a million dollar question? Once the B.E. qualified candidates enter in the portals of BSNL, there will be a remarkable change. This is my expectation. The above remarks applies to me also. The remarks are made in the interest of BSNL only.

First of all you need to realise that your speed goes down to 256 Kbps once your 4 GB allowance has been used up. Check your speed at the beginning of your billing period. If it stays at 256 Kbps during the whole month then you have reason to complain.
Secondly, speed does not change 'automaticlly' it has to be changed. If another person asks for the same package in your area he will get it but you won't. If your local exchange won't do anything about it then complain higher up or upgrade the package then downgrade again. That might work.

What do you mean 'pair spair'? You don't mean 'spair capcity' do you? Telephone exchanges have wire panals or ports to which telephone and/or broadbend wires are connected. If there are no more ports to connect wires to then they cannot give you a connection until more panals have been installed. Until then you just have to wait or get a wireless dongle to connect to your PC/laptop.

We have been using BSNL Telephones for past 20 Years & Broad band for past 4 years. Normally, we pay the Broadband charges on annual charges. Accordingly, we did last year also. We have Rs.900/- Home plan. This had a facility to use 400 free calls. Suddenly, the scheme is changed, and we are charged for the calls made to other service providers now. This was not so, when we paid money on annual basis. Service conditions should not be changed during the period for which payment is collected. From 044-28142003.

  38. Guys i am staying near Adugodi, Koramagnala Forum Bangalore. and i am looking for unlimited BB connection which can give me high speed 2/4 MBPS upto 30/40 GB per month and thereafter 256/512 KBPS.

Currently i use Airtel BB 999 Plan ( 2 mbps upto 10 GB, thereafter 256 Kbps), for which i end up paying 1,200 Rs. every month. And it's not affordable for me. I wanna change my ISP ASAP.

Bottomline: I know & have read BB reviews in B'lore that only either Airtel or BSNL BB is good.
However, Airtel BB Internet/ customer service etc. is good but sinfully expensive, so much hidden cost( i end up paying 1200/m for 999 Plan).
Bsnl, is affordable with good internet services but bad customer service etc.
So here i'he gotta trade off situation. still i wanna try BSNL anyway.

As per that i m suppose to get speed of 512 kbps to 1 Mbps bt i getting only 74.60 kbps since past 4 months i m suffering with this problem. I have to restart modem again and again and it work for few minutes after that net speed died. I have launched complaint so many times. So called engineers come, just open Google and run away with rude answer, you will get this much speed only or upgrade your plan. Customer care never pick up the call. I am fade up of this issue. Kindly let me know the actual step i can take to get the speed i deserve to have or let me know how to disconnect from BSNL forever and also let me know where to give this negative review so other users don't need to suffer as I do

I was heavily overcharged for BB usage in Dec Rs 2997 and Jan Rs 5147. I was in the Flexi 500 home plan from mid Dec to Jan month, as i was not having my laptop to connect, I was not using the internet. But still the system shows bb usage and charged the bill.

I have made several phone complaints, written complaints to bsnl accounts, JE officer, sent several emails, but still no solution.

The bsnl system also didnt alert me when the bb limit is crossed, i didnt get any sms too. only after i confirm Yes , the system should continue, due to this system error, i had to change my bb plan to unlimited again, though i dont have usage of it, my outgoing is barred now, im getting payment reminder calls, late fees now.

Please let me know what needs to be done from my side further.

  60. hi, iam using bsnl BB 512kbps plan. DLink 2750u is the modem i used(my own configuration). problem is my download speed is only 60kbps!! what the problem? its modem config issue? or any other? any one plz help!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ur modem config. is absolutely correct because, 512 is kilo BITS per second. When you download a file, it usually gives you kilo BYTES per second. a 512 kbps connection would give you around a max of 64 kilobytes per second. (To calculate this, just divide 512 by 8, since theres 8 bits in a byte) If your really only getting 50 kbps, files being downloaded would download at like 7 kb per second. Then you need to call your internet provider. :)
      hope i helped!!!!!!

      Delete
    2. 512 Kbps means Kilo Bits per second. one byte = 8 bits.
the 60kbps you are referring is Kilo BYTES per second.
So to check your download speed, always divide the speed of the plan by 8.
So your ideal download speed is 512/8 =64 Kilo BYTES per second.

You are getting what you are paying for.

Better choose 1425 plan or any plan much more expensive than that. IT IS WORTH IT!!

  67. Hi.. I am Praveen. I am currently using BBG FN 500 plan. I am paying a fixed charge of 500 for BB, 25 as modem rent, 180 as fixed monthly telephone charges. So totally 500+25+180=705 as fixed charge. Plus additional usage charges and Taxes. All together it comes around 2200 per month. I want to change to BBG combo ULD 900. Now i have questions. Pls excuse me if it's silly.
    1. It is 22-04-2013 today. If my plan is changed within 2 or 3 days,as they say, when will the change be accounted for billing? Will the new plan's bill come from mid april or from later?
    2. Will there be any processing charges for the change of plans? If yes, how much?
    3. Will i still get fixed monthly charges for the telephone?because in the plan details it says NIL(so does BBG FN 500 say but i pay Rs 180 for telephone),and i just want to confirm it.
    4. Do i have to pay additional security deposit charges everytime i change the plan?
    5. Can i change back to BBG FN combo 500 if i want? If yes, when can i change?

      2. There is no charges for change of Broadband plans
      3. There is no telephone FMC in BBGComboULD950(900-Old, All charges are 950+S.Tax, which shall also allowed 400 free calls with in BSNL network.

I am a B.B. holder of "B.B.Home Combo ULD 650". I understand from your site that under this scheme the D.L./U.L. speed would be 512 KBPS upto 4G.B. and 256 KBPS beyond 4 G.B. But I get the average speed of around 50KBPS and not beyond 70KBPS. In rare occasions I can get 90 to 100 KBPS.for a fews seconds. There is a long gap between the assured speed and available speed. Why this huge variation? Is there any remedy for it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sorry for this, the difference between 'kbps' and 'kBps' is kbps means kilo bits per second. and whereas kBps means kilo bytes per second. As we know that one byte equals to eight bits. 512 kbps = 64 kBps (512/8 kBps)

BSNL Provides 512 kbps means 512/8=64 kBps, so your are getting correct speed only by BSNL as per tariff.

  111. I have to say that Overall BSNL's service has improved drastically over the years. Before(2yrs ago), I never used to get 2G signal withing the city (Chennai), but now I get a string signal + No other service provider has vast area of network. 4yrs ago, when I went to gangotri ,I got signal there and none of the other service provider had signal there.
Added to that BSNL broadband is really fast. I am getting 350~375 Kbps download speed in 1425 plan.
    I am satisfied with it.

If 900 Plan will change to 950 plan, the difference of Rs.50 will come in next bill as deposit for payment.

  113. this comment is for Aashaka Vyas since "reply" button was not working...

First you should know the basics...
    8 bits =1 Byte
    i.e. 8 b(small b) = 1 B (capital B)

    so 512 b = 64 B

    (1kilo = 1000= 1k)

    multiply 1k on both sides

    you'll get

    512 kb = 64 kB

    .

but you are getting 74 kB per second(notice capital B)

    it means you're getting more..

    "Enjoy don't End-joy".

  119. bsnl is really a cheater. BSNL is the worst customer care service only looking for the money i guess. I have BSNL broadband 750 unlimited plan.

  120. nice plans bsnl.i have 950 plan with 20% govt employe discount but many time speed is the issue.its very poor sometimes and site like facebook take minutes to open..and they have really horrible-horrible customer service.
well,im sticking to it because of the cheap plan nd 512kbps speed which no other companies offers...

  121. I am another unfortunate user who has taken Rs. 500 plan with a limit of 2 GB..it's a wonder from BSNL...the connection gets lost 2 times in a MINUTE!! NOW, that's something incredible that no other broadband provider can do..NEEDLESS TO SAY THAT their response is SUPERB..the next day itself i received a call asking "is the internet connection okay now?"...we say "no" and THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I HATE MYSELF NOW TO HAVE OPTED FOR THIS DEAL!!!!

  125. Hello all, If I subscribe to the most expensive plan, say Rs 6300 per month unlimited download, is 6300+taxes all I have to pay, or do I have to pay for the time spent online as well? For example, what if I am online 24x7, do I still pay only 6300+taxes?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. IF u subscribe to 6300 plan, you have to pay Rs.6300+12.3%(Service Tax) per month as Fixed monthly charges for BBG Combo ULD 6300 broadband plan.

you have to use the internet as 24X7 or some hours, it is your wish only.

  126. First of all Kbps means kilo bits per second. 1 byte=8bits. internet spped in measured in bits. if you dwnload a file you are shown in bytes. so 512 Kbps means 512/8=64 KBps capital B= bytes small b=bits... so if BSNL says 512 Kbps and dwnload is happening at 60-64 KBps i ll say it is very good speed almost 95% of speed they claim they give
